Following its continued success last year, Social Sunday will be returning for a third year to Jason and Irha Atherton’s The Social Company on Sunday 11th June 2017. Held in the group’s nine London-based restaurants, the Michelin-starred restaurateur and his army of chefs will each collaborate with a top UK chef to create a bespoke lunch menu in aid of Hospitality Action. As an exciting addition to the event this year, Group Bar Executive, Jamie Jones, will also welcome a stellar line up of London’s best bartenders to The Social Company’s flagship bar, The Blind Pig, to mix up cocktails as part of the event.
Available at each London restaurant for one service only, the event will offer guests the opportunity to try food created by some of the country’s top chefs collaborating with one another. At the group’s flagship restaurant, Pollen Street Social, Jason Atherton himself will be hosting ‘The Young Guns’: Elizabeth Allen, who is soon to launch solo venture Shibui, Mark Jarvis of hugely successful modern British restaurant, Anglo, and James Cochran, formerly of The Ledbury and now at the helm of his eponymous restaurant James Cochran EC3 in Liverpool Street. Across the street at Little Social, Chef Patron Cary Docherty will be creating a menu with executive chef of The Typing Room, Lee Westcott. For an all Michelin-starred line up, Peter Sanchez-Iglesias of Casamia restaurant in Bristol will be teaming up with Paul Hood at Social Eating House, whilst Tom Brown from seafood restaurant, Outlaw’s at the Capital, will be joining forces with Frankie Van Loo at Social Wine & Tapas. Claude Bosi and Francesco Dibenedetto of Bibendum will be heading to City Social to create a five-course menu with a view alongside Executive Chef Paul Walsh. Alex Craciun, chef patron at The Social Company’s Japanese izakaya-style restaurant, Sosharu, will welcome chefs Ollie Dabbous and Ben Orpwood (formerly of Zuma and Sexy Fish) to create a Japanese menu with modern British influences. Back in the City, Keith Hooker will welcome David Carter of Smokestak to the grill at Temple and Sons, creating barbecue dishes which champion British produce throughout. At The Social Company’s newest opening, Hai Cenato, Head Chef James Brown will host Ben Tish, known for his Mediterranean twists on tapas. Jason Atherton will also be hosting a private dinner in the penthouse of The London EDITION hotel with Berners Tavern’s Phil Carmichael.
Finally, taking place behind the speakeasy’s ‘hidden’ door above Michelin-starred Social Eating House, guest bartenders will join The Blind Pig bar team, headed up by Jamie Jones, to present their own creative mixes designed to mark Social Sunday. Peg + Patriot and Scout’s Matt Whiley, aka the Talented Mr Fox, will be among those taking residency, together with Daniel Schofield from Coupette, Jake O’Brien Murphy from Callooh Callay and Aidan Bowie of Dandelyan, who was crowned the GB World Class Bartender 2016.
Each lunch will be a ticketed event, priced between £65 and £180 per person depending on the restaurant, with all proceeds raised going directly to Hospitality Action. With all staff working for free on the day, and suppliers donating their produce, Social Sunday will once again showcase the generosity and amiable nature of the hospitality industry.
