Lockhart Catering Equipment Highlights Sustainability with New ‘Chefs Against Plastic Waste’ Workwear

Lockhart Catering Equipment has expanded its exclusive Brigade chef clothing range to include a chef jacket and apron made from ethically sourced recycled plastic bottles.

The ‘Chefs Against Plastic Waste’ workwear is made by crushing and melting recycled PET plastic, before passing it through small holes to create thin strands. These strands are then stretched and cooled to create polyester fibres which are blended with cotton (65% polyester and 35% cotton) to combine the best of both materials.

Simon Britten, Head of Marketing at Lockhart Catering Equipment explains the benefits of the sustainable clothing:

“Sustainability is a vital issue, especially in the foodservice sector where waste and energy consumption are under intense scrutiny. Workwear may not be the first point of call when operators are considering how to reduce their environmental impact, however our new Chefs Against Plastic Waste range brings it to the fore. We’ve ethically sourced PET plastic and saved it from landfill by transforming it into this new product. The process behind the creation of these jackets uses less energy than producing virgin polyester, yet reaps all the benefits of the material, including improved longevity to further prolong product life. The campaign aims to simultaneously raise awareness and reduce waste, all while moving towards a more circular economy.”

Blending the recycled polyester with cotton combines the durability and moisture-wicking properties of polyester with the comfort and breathability of cotton, resulting in chef clothing which is functional and comfortable.

The Chefs Against Plastic Waste short sleeve jacket is equipped with a pen pocket and simple press stud fastening for ultimate convenience, and comes in a classic, clean-cut white. Meanwhile, the aprons feature a front pocket and are available in black, white, grey, or royal blue, with matching colour ties to fasten it at the back.
