Bohemia Chef: Regional Finalist in Roux Scholarship 2019

It has been revealed that chef, Michael Cruickshank, will compete in the regional final at the 2019 Roux Scholarship competition. Michael is Jr. Sous Chef at Michelin starred Bohemia Restaurant in St Helier, Jersey.

Michael will be competing against 17 other chefs from around the country on Thursday 14 March 2019. He will attend the event as one of the 12 finalists at the University of West London, Ealing, where Michael Roux Jr will be on the judging panel. The six other finalists will be competing at University College Birmingham with Alain Roux on the judging panel.

Before joining Steve Smith’s team at Bohemia, Michael worked in some of the UK’s most renowned restaurants including Michelin Starred restaurants The Montagu Arms, Hampshire and Sienna Restaurant in Dorchester, Dorset. Only the best young talent in the UK are chosen to go through to the regional finals. Michael was one of the few shortlisted, amongst a high standard of entries, to battle it out in the finals. Michael was selected based on his paper application and his written recipe – which was judged blindly.

The Bohemia chef was chosen to compete against chefs from top dining establishments including Galvin at Windows, and The Ritz, London. Michael is one of the 8 finalists from restaurants outside of London.

Bohemia Bar & Restaurant provides unrivalled Michelin Star dining in the heart of Jersey. Head Chef Steve Smith, who has held a Michelin Star for over 15 years from the age of just 24, has created a truly outstanding dining experience with his ingredient and flavour driven tasting menus.

In October 2018, Bohemia celebrated yet again after hearing the news that it had retained its coveted Michelin star for the fourteenth year. Prior to this in September 2018, Bohemia was awarded 5AA rosettes for the second year in a row, holding the record for being the first restaurant in the Channel Islands to receive this accolade. Bohemia was also ranked the 14th best restaurant in the whole of the UK in the Good Food Guide 2019 and at number 57 in Square Meal's Top 100 Best Restaurants 2018. Bohemia is the only restaurant in the Channel Islands to be featured in both lists. The restaurant now outranks some of the world’s most famous restaurants cementing Bohemia on the international culinary map.
