Biography

Kevin Tickle was born and raised in Cumbria. Kevin knew a career in the kitchen was for him after taking on his first job washing pots and pans to earn money for beer. The chef even turned down a career as a fire fighter and an electrician to pursue a career in catering taking on an apprenticeship role.

Kevin left Forest Side in the Autumn of 2019, to take some time out with his young family and to begin planning to create a place of his own. He and his wife Nicola took over a historic 17th century coaching inn at the foot of Cartmel Fell, in the southern Lake District village of High Newton and embarked on creating their first venture.

After training at Kendal College, Kevin went to work for the Michelin starred Sharrow Bay as chef de partie before moving on to L’Enclume with Simon Rogan where he worked his way up the ranks to become sous chef and head forager. It was during this time that Kevin’s passion for foraging grew and after nine years Kevin was appointed head chef of another of Simon’s restaurants, Rogan & Co which is just around the corner from L’Enclume.

In March 2023, Heft was awarded one Michelin star.
