Apply for a free scholarship - Cook's Certificate in Food and Wine

Cookery School at Little Portland Street are offering a scholarship place, free of charge, on their Cook's Certificate in Food and Wine, for someone with a socially driven foodie goal. Apply by midday 18 February 2022 and be ready to start on Monday 7 March!

The scholarship provides a golden opportunity for someone who could not afford to take the course otherwise. All we ask of them in return is to use their food training to do social good, so others can benefit as well.

Students receive six weeks of intensive hands-on learning and leave with several qualifications, including Level 3 Certificate from Open College Network (OCN) London and a Level 2 Award in Wines from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET).

The Cook’s Certificate course is valued at £7,750 and includes over 200 hours of practical study and additional learning.

"Ten years ago we launched our Cook's Certificate to offer an intensive programme for people looking to work in the food industry. The course is based on education and a solid teaching of cooking principles, it covers ingredient sourcing, meal planning, menu writing, budgeting, sustainability and a raft of different culinary techniques." said founder Rosalind Rathouse.
You’ll learn with our expert chefs, including reknowned baker and award-winning food writer, Dan Lepard and chocolatier, Jon Hogan.

Pre-pandemic we were able to offer a week of work experience in top professional kitchens, such as Artizian, Hakkasan, Honey & Co, Moro, The Cinnamon Collection, The Caprice Group and Woodhouse Group Restaurants. However, with the hospitality sector having been badly hit by the pandemic, this will probably not be possible for this session of the Cook's Certificate.

Since its inception the Cookery School have developed the curriculum, engaged with restaurants and caterers across London and were able to offer work experience placements and as a result they have seen alumni go on to work in professional kitchens, as well as launch their own businesses.

“Having just completed this course I cannot recommend it enough – the school is amazing and the teachers quite brilliant. Knowledgeable, patient, enthusiastic, insightful and inspiring – you can even do a wine course alongside. Make the time to do it!” – Georgia
