Hawkyns by Atul Kochhar at The Crown Inn, Amersham awarded coveted two AA Rosettes Award

Following its opening just seven months ago, Hawkyns at The Crown Inn in Amersham has been awarded two AA Rosettes Award by AA Hotel Services. Overseen by twice decorated Michelin starred Atul Kochhar, this new award cements Hawkyns as one of Buckinghamshire’s most exciting establishments.

The first in chef Kochhar’s portfolio of Indian and Peruvian restaurants to offer traditional British cuisine, Hawkyns received the two AA Rosette Award accolade due to a range of merits. From innovative menus that feature wonderful flavour combinations and dishes that require precision cooking to the use of quality, locally sourced ingredients, all are acknowledged with this award.

Chef Atul Kochhar commented, “I’m delighted that Hawkyns has been awarded two AA Rosette Award, especially given we only opened our doors in January this year. It’s an absolute pleasure to create exciting dishes that celebrate the best of British and we look forward to continuing to welcome both first-time and repeat visitors.”

Andrew Oxley, Head of Hotel & Hospitality Services, comments, “The achievement of a two AA Rosette Award recognises high standards, consistency and precision, serving food prepared with care and with evident selection of fresh, seasonal, quality ingredients. Good understanding and use of technical skills are demonstrated in the cooking, with clarity of flavours shining through.”

With a tasting, vegetarian tasting, celebrations and children’s menu, not to mention the A La Carte offering, there really is something to suite all tastes and occasions. Championing locally sourced seasonal produce, dishes on offer include the incredible Pea Panna Cotta Bacon Crumb with Fresh Peas and Air Dried Ham, and the Pan Fried Hake in Curry Cream with Kale and Curry Oil.

Hawkyns is situated at The Crown, a former Elizabethan coaching inn that creaks with history and heritage. Offering 45 stunningly appointed rooms, re-imagined by designer Ilse Crawford in 2009, the Inn is ideally positioned in the picturesque town of Amersham, which boasts architecture spanning more than five centuries. Amersham is easily accessible via the Metropolitan line (Zone 9) and Chiltern Railways.

AA Rosettes were first introduced over fifty years ago as an award system reflecting and recognising the emergence of British hotel cooking after fifteen years of rationing; and in 1992 the AA Rosette scheme was revised as the five-tier rating system that is recognised today. Of all the restaurants across the UK, approximately 10% are of a standard worthy of one Rosette and above, all of which feature in the AA Restaurant Guide.
