Michael Ellis, the current international director of Michelin Guides, has announced today that he will leave his role this September.

Having been in the role for seven years, Michael will leave the Michelin group on Friday, September 14 2018. Michelin are yet to announce his successor, but said in a press release today that they will be 'appointed soon'.

Under Michael's leadership, the Guide now has 31 editions in 30 countries - soon to be 32 with the addition of the Guangzhou edition. It has expanded the collection with six new titles over the last three years.

Michael said: "My seven years as head of the Michelin Guides have been the most exciting of my career and I can not thank the Michelin group enough for giving me this unique opportunity. The inspectors are the beating heart of this strategic activity, their passion and their expertise are without question and I was very honored to be with them during these seven years. Long live the Michelin Guide! "

According to Thomson Reuters Zawya, José Silva, chief executive officer for Jumeirah Group has appointed Michael as their chief culinary officer.

Silva told them:  “Michael has a relentless commitment to quality and with a chef’s heart is a true gastronomic encyclopedia.  His knowledge and experience of restaurants, cuisine, and chef talent is unparalleled, and as an observer of the world of dining, Michael brings to Jumeirah a depth of understanding for culinary that cannot be surpassed.  It is an honour to welcome Michael to lead the culinary team.”

We expect the Michelin Guide UK 2019 to be released at a live ceremony in London in October. We will be bringing you full coverage from the event including the full list of restaurants, interviews and much more.
