Tilda Supports Zest Quest Upskill Day

Finalists of Zest Quest Asia 2020 were treated to an upskill day, courtesy of founders Pervin and Cyrus Todiwala OBE DL.
The ‘A Passion to Inspire’ event – supported by Tilda Foodservice – showcased the exciting world of Asian cuisine and the rewards of pursuing a career in hospitality.
Hosted by Hilton T5, the student chefs enjoyed an educational day which included a culinary journey of spices in India by Chef Todiwala. The Tilda rice people, Luke Dalley and Chefs Simon Hall and Gareth Jones explored the importance of rice and its endless culinary possibilities – cooking up an aromatic Biryani and Jasmine Rice Pudding.
Steve Munkley, Executive Chef at the Royal Garden Hotel and his Master Chef Weng Han Wong shared their culinary expertise on the history and cooking of Beijing Duck. While Adam Smith, Executive Chef of Coworth Park, Ascot gave the students top tips to preparing and succeeding in the Zest Quest Asia final on the 7th February 2020.
Speaking about the inspirational day, Annette Coggins, Head of Foodservice, Tilda UK said:
“Zest Quest Asia is bigger than ever, and we want to ensure that our talented young chefs are supported not only for the competition but can reap the benefits in the future when cooking this exciting and vibrant cuisine. Rice can play an important part on menus, from vegan and gluten-free to global cuisine, it can carry any flavour and be in any course, making it a star ingredient in the kitchen. We hope our finalists are feeling inspired and we can’t wait to see what they cook up in the grand finale!”

For the seventh round of the Asian cookery competition, the Tilda ‘Best Use of Rice’ winning college will join the rice people on the Tilda Italia Tour, spending time in the stunning Po Valley in Northern Italy and the cosmopolitan city of Milan. The two night trip will give budding chefs the opportunity to learn the story behind Tilda’s world famous Arborio rice, explore the paddy fields and have an exclusive tour of the rice mill. Discover the hidden gastro gems with a food safari in Milan, as well as enjoy some of the best and most exciting Asian inspired restaurants the city has to offer.
The final cook off and glittering gala dinner will be held on Friday 7th February 2020 at the Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, tickets are available to buy now at www.zestquestasia.com
