John and Desiree Chantarasak to open AngoThai in Marylebone

AngloThai, the debut restaurant from husband and wife team, John and Desiree Chantarasak, will open this autumn in partnership with MJMK Restaurants. Following on from a number of highly acclaimed pop ups and residencies, the pair will be bringing their unique take on Thai-British cuisine with a European focused wine list, to their first bricks and mortar site on Seymour Place in Marylebone.

AngloThai marries bold, flavour driven cooking with seasonal ingredients sourced within the British Isles. Chef and co-founder John, will serve his personal interpretation of Thai cuisine, drawing inspiration from both his Thai and British heritage. The food will be complemented by a European wine selection that focuses on co-founder Desiree’s passion for excellent wine grower craftsmanship, often from a new generation of winemakers that sights biodynamics at the forefront of grape growing, harvesting and wine production.

Guests can expect a creative and imaginative food offering that changes seasonally. A la carte dishes are designed to be shared as traditional in Thai eating culture, and guests will also have the option to dine from a daily changing chef selection menu. The couple will champion slow grown British-reared meats, such as black faced Hebridean Sheep from Ryall Farm in Dorset, owned and farmed by Desiree’s family. Line caught seafood, British caviar and Carlingford oysters will feature prominently, as well as seasonal vegetables, fruits and foraged foods that not only encompass domestic seasonality but also British grown Asian produce - holy basil, young ginger root, makrut citrus and chillies.

The restaurant interiors have been designed with leading Thai-American designer May Redding. Inspiration is drawn from Thailand’s contemporary design movement, championing its distinctive blend of vibrant ecosystem and supportive infrastructure for design and craftsmanship currently flourishing in Thailand.

There will be 50-covers in the main restaurant, and later in the year ‘Baan’, named after the Thai word for home, will provide a private dining space that encapsulates the couple's deep passion for homely hospitality, from the setting to the service.
