Cumbria Food Awards welcomes Simon Rogan as Patron

The multiple award-winning chef and restaurateur Simon Rogan has been announced as Patron of the new Cumbria Food Awards.
Simon, who has been at the forefront of the UK’s restaurant scene for nearly 20 years, has lent his name to support and promote both the event and the hospitality industry in Cumbria.

The independent Cumbria Food Awards will take place at Kendal College next March 3, when the cream of the county’s food and drink sector will come together for a sparkling evening of celebration to recognise their achievements.

Simon regards Cumbria and the village of Cartmel as the centre of his operation. He opened his first restaurant, the two Michelin-starred L’Enclume, in Cartmel in 2002 and it has since gained a world-class reputation.

Among many awards, it is the current Good Food Guide number one restaurant in the UK.

Simon said: “I was really pleased to hear about the new Cumbria Food Awards and was delighted to accept an invitation to become Patron.

Cumbria is the beating heart of my business and I’ve always strived to promote the county as much as possible.

“After an incredibly stressful period for the hospitality industry, it will be great to recognise the businesses which have continued to perform at the top level, or have launched new ventures to help them survive. We’re looking forward to celebrating with everyone on the night.”

Awards organisers Lindsay Molloy and Michaela Robinson-Tate thanked Simon for backing the event.
Lindsay said: “Having someone of Simon’s stature on board as Patron is a tremendous boost for Cumbria Food Awards and we’re extremely grateful for his support.”

Simon has recently announced a partnership with Kendal College, called The Simon Rogan Academy, a bespoke 18-month course during which students will spend time in the Rogan restaurant kitchens and at college.

After successfully completing the course, they will be invited for a week’s work experience at Simon’s Michelin-starred Roganic restaurant in Hong Kong, with flights and hotel included.
Both L’Enclume and Roganic Hong Kong have a Michelin Green Star, awarded for sustainability and recognising Simon’s commitment to a ‘farm to fork’ ethos.

The Cumbria Food Awards are supported by media partner Cumbria Crack, one of the region’s most popular news websites, which has 1.55 million page views per month and the independent grocer Booths, which is supplying the food for the event dinner.
