The Black Swan at Oldstead named the world’s best rated restaurant by the TripAdvisor Awards

It was announced today that The Black Swan at Oldstead in North Yorkshire, a family run, four AA Rosette and one Michelin Star restaurant with rooms, has been named the world’s best rated restaurant, by the annual TripAdvisor Awards.
Owned and run by the Banks family, who have lived and farmed around Oldstead for many generations, the win marks the first time a restaurant in the UK has topped the world category since the awards began in 2012, and is the first year The Black Swan has appeared in the Travellers Choice Awards for Restaurants.
The restaurant, headed up by brothers Tommy and James Banks, has a very real ‘farm-to-fork’ philosophy and strong focus on innovation and self-reliance, which brings the family, chefs and front-of-house together to work collectively; whether designing and making furniture for the dining room, planting and harvesting on the land or preparing and serving dinner. This cohesion between the team at The Black Swan is one of the reasons so many of TripAdvisor’s travellers have rated their experience at The Black Swan so highly.
Tommy Banks, head chef at The Black Swan says, “We are so happy with the news and would like to thank all of the TripAdvisor users who have rated their experience with us so highly, and recognised the hard work each member of the team puts into every element of running The Black Swan. It really is everyone in our fantastic team who has made this happen”.
The awards from TripAdvisor, the travel site that helps travellers find the latest reviews and lowest prices, honour travellers' favourite fine dining establishments worldwide, based on the millions of reviews and opinions on TripAdvisor gathered over a twelve-month period. Tommy Banks’ debut book ‘Roots’ will be published by The Orion Publishing Group on 5th April 2018.
