Rascills owners Richard and Lyndsey Johns to launch Yorkshire gastropub, The Horsham Inn

We are very pleased to inform you of our new, exciting, forth coming venture, The Hovingham Inn, situated between Malton and Helmsley, North Yorkshire.

The pub, currently known as the Malt Shovel is undergoing a full renovation programme which we are very excited about. Once complete the pub will reopen under the new name, The Hovingham Inn. Situated in the picturesque village of Hovingham, in a designated area of outstanding beauty, we hope to breathe new life and energy back into the pub. Previously owned and neglected under a pub co operator, The Hovingham, will be a fully independent, owner operated concern. Richard will cook and Lindsey will oversee the front of house.

There is a clear idea of what we want to offer our customers being that bit different from other operators in the area. Yorkshire is blessed with some excellent dining pubs and it is very important that we offer our customers a very genuine, distinctive and memorable experience. Above all a comfortable and inviting pub that folks can relax in, whether it be just a drink, a quick bite or something more elaborate.

The Hovingham is the opportunity we have been waiting for, for such a long time, having long believed our style and personalities are very well suited to a pub environment.

Our food and service will continue to be of a standard which we have become known for over the years. We hope to offer a product that will satisfy our regular and local customers alike, along with customers who will visit from further afield.

After leaving Artisan, we gained superb experience in taking on what was a near dying, rural pub, The Falcon Inn, Withernwick, East Yorkshire. Many folks thought we were mad to take on such a place! The pub was initially falling down around our ears but essentially we learnt just what people want and expect from their pub. This we hope to build on once more.

In the time we operated the Falcon Inn, we completely turned it around over an eighteen month period of very hard and demanding work. As a result the pub gained recognition as a Top 30 UK Dining Pub by the Good Food Guide, also gaining entry into the Michelin pub eating out and Michelin guides respectively.

The Hovinghams food offering will be locally sourced, concentrating on the modern British classics. The food will be generous, satisfying and not overly fussy.
It is envisaged food will serviced throughout the week both lunch and evening, in addition to all day bar food, as and where appropriate. Roasts on Sunday will be special!

In addition, there are plans in place to offer three/ four en-suite rooms. It is hoped the rooms will be ready within the first 12 months of opening, adding to the customer experience.
Subject to ongoing works, we are aiming to be open by early May 2019. Bookings and website will go live during April. Anybody wanting any further information in the meantime, please contact us via email, [email protected]

A very warm and hospitable welcome awaits.
