Tropea Reveals New Interior Following Extension

Tropea, one of The Good Food Guide’s Best 100 Local Restaurants 2024 has revealed its new interior following an extension, allowing for 25 more covers

Tropea, a Harborne based Italian restaurant, recently extended into the next door premises to add 25 more covers and double the kitchen size.

Thanks to the extension, a number of walk-in tables for locals and regulars will be open, as well as a new bar for guests to sit at and enjoy a drink. The increased kitchen space allows for new equipment, giving the chefs the opportunity to innovate the menu.

The new dishes available champion the restaurant’s Italian connections and include Beef carpaccio, Sicilian Arancino with butternut squash, Sardines ‘in soar’ on crostini, and Sardinian fregola pasta with chilli and native mussels.

Tropea is the creation of Ben Robinson Young and Kasia Piatkowska, who met whilst studying Culinary Arts at the University College Birmingham in 2010. The restaurant borrows its name from Tropea, a picturesque town on the Calabrian coast (pronounced Tro-Pey-Ah), and draws influence from the country’s culinary landscape, even sourcing much of the produce from Italy.

2024 has seen Tropea be recommended in the Michelin Guide and listed in The Good Food Guide’s Best 100 Local Restaurants 2024, after having been named the regional winner and best local restaurant in Central and East of England by The Good Food Guide in 2023.

Ben and Kasia, owners of Tropea, said, “As a true neighbourhood restaurant, we could not be more excited to reopen our doors for friends of Tropea and introduce new faces to the refreshed space.

As always, Tropea will remain an intimate and cosy restaurant with the extension allowing us to offer more variety in sitting options. Now that we’re able to offer walk-ins, there will always be a spot for regular locals to visit for their favourite dish or a try something new.”
