Top 10 unique (crazy) kitchen gadgets

The Staff Canteen
Everybody is familiar with kitchen gadgets. The pizza cutter, the knife stand, the grater. For years they have made our lives easier, keeping us safe in the knowledge that, should we ever need to measure out 5ml of salt, there’s a spoon for the job. But, as we seek to make our lives as efficient as possible, the kitchen gadget wizards have cottoned on and come up with some remarkable results. From the weird and wacky, the clever and useful to the tools that really just aren’t necessary, we look at our top 10 crazily unique kitchen gadgets. Egg cuberEgg Cuber We’re not 100% sure what the importance of this is but none-the-less it’s pretty cool. You put your boiled eggs in the box, pop it in the fridge and voila, a square egg. Obviously it won’t taste any different, but, if you’re tired of your egg rolling around your salad plate or want to fill your egg sandwich up to the corners then this tool is invaluable. Other varieties include the heart shaped egg mould, enabling you to serve up some eggy romance if you so wish. June, the smart oven June Smart OvenBy far the most technologically advanced piece of kit on this list. June is a smart oven that not only uses HD cameras to detect what food you are cooking, but also allows you to weigh food, watch your food cooking and suggests perfect recipes to go with whatever is in your oven. You can set a preference for how you like your food cooked and the oven will do the rest for you, using its camera and a probe to make sure that your dish comes out to your requirements every time. The oven isn’t out just yet, but it is sure to revolutionise the home cooking industry for those that can afford its nearly £1000 price tag! SensorFreshQSensorFreshQ This gadget isn’t so odd, but rather pretty handy to have around if you’re interested in the freshness of your food. The probe is held above food for 30 seconds and literally smells the food to ensure that it is fresh. Well, it doesn’t literally smell it, but we like to think that’s how it works. In fact, the probe measures the air particles around the food to detect how fresh it is, before giving a green, yellow or red light depending on whether the food is good to eat. Garlic Zoom Garlic ZoomIf you’ve ever been chopping garlic and thought ‘there must be a funner way to do this’, then look no further. The garlic zoom allows you to put your garlic in the compartment and then chops your garlic as you roll it around the table, saving you a whopping 10 seconds of garlic chopping time, which makes up for the time you’ll probably spend fitting the garlic in the lid and scraping it out of the bottom afterwards. Banana Slicer This product is a must have for those interested in consistently sized banana slices, an important aspect of many people’s fruit eating habits. Sharing a banana has never been easier than it is now, particularly if you ever find yourself stuck in the kitchen without a knife, or anything capable of cutting for that matter.Banana Slicer A word of warning however, the banana slicer bends to the right so it might not be suitable for bananas that bend to the other way. It’ll add time to your weekly shop as you search for the perfect shaped bananas, but the time you save using the product should make it all worth it (yes, you can also turn your banana around if need be but that’s much less fun). Roll and Pour Roll and PourThere’s nothing worse than going to pour a glass of milk, getting distracted mid-way through and having to clean up the four pints of spilt milk that are now all over your kitchen floor. If that’s ever happened to you, then fear no more as the Roll and Pour offers a very simply solution. Simply insert your bottle of choice into the roller and push it to the side, ensuring efficient pouring measures each and every time. Jokes aside, this product can be helpful for anyone with joint problems and children, so it does have its uses! The Defensive SwordsmanThe Defensive Swordsman In terms of innovation, practicality and efficiency this product simply offers nothing that you wouldn’t get with a regular knife holder. However, if you’re looking to spice up your kitchen counter and increase your culinary street cred then this quirky knife holder is surely the coolest product on this list and a must have if you want to add a bit of personality to your kitchen. Butter Cutter Butter CutterThis one comes from a wide range of butter spreading products, all aimed at aiding our lives by reducing the amount of contact time our skin has to have with the fatty dairy spread (which has obviously been a big problem in many kitchens throughout history, right?). Other products include the butter syringe and a specific corn on the cob butter spreader. It might seem messy and it is probably easier to just use a knife, but the feeling of power that comes from shooting out squares of butter surely makes this an essential product for any kitchen. AirFryer Forget greasy chips. Forget all of that extra fat. Forget the fire hazards and rigorous cleaning AirFryerprocedures that come with your deep fat fryer. The AirFryer offers an innovative new method of frying food without using oil. The rapid air technology gives you crispy chips with 80% less fat in just 25 minutes, making this a must have product for anyone watching their waistlines or simply interested in following a healthy lifestyle. Egg Minder Just when it seemed like smart technology had gone too far, along came the Egg Minder. It’s EggMinderbasically a built in babysitter for eggs, keeping an eye on them and sending you an alarm in case you should, God forbid, start to run low, giving you ample time to run to the shops to stock up. The product does redeem itself however with its ability to tell you which eggs have been in storage the longest, meaning you’ll never have to eat a bad egg again. By Lewis Treleaven
