A record 25 restaurants have received stars in the Michelin Guide Chicago 2014, with two new names joining the two star category.

Sixteen, which is situated in the Trump International Hotel, gained its first star last year and has now been upgraded as one of the five best establishments in the city. Curtis Duffy’s restaurant, Grace, is also in the two star bracket for the first time while graham elliot and L20 remain.

The only three starred restaurant is Alinea, situated in Lincoln Park & Old Town and run by Grant Achatz. There are five newcomers to the Michelin Guide Chicago. Bruce Sherman’s North Pond is amongst those receiving its first star, along with El Ideas and The Lobby. The other new names to make the list are Elizabeth, which is run by young female chef Iliana Regan and Noah Sandoval’s Senza which specialises in healthy, gluten free dishes.

Michael Ellis, international director of the Michelin guides, said: “The cuisine offered in Chicago is innovative, and particularly open-minded. The culinary scene is very different from New York or San Francisco: chefs have created their own contemporary style, based on influences with molecular cuisine. The result is a remarkably high level of creativity.”

A total of 405 restaurants are acknowledged in this year’s edition which is now available at a price of $18.99.
