The Staff Canteen

This week’s round-up of new restaurant openings features Greek and Italian venues in London and a new Spanish steakhouse in Glasgow.

Bamboleo, Glasgow restaurant, The Staff Canteen

Bamboléo, Glasgow

Now open in Glasgow is new Spanish steakhouse and wine bar Bamboléo.

Located in Bearsden, Bamboléo is supporting Beatson Cancer Charity.

Six Company, the Glasgow-based restaurant group that owns Bamboléo and Six by Nico restaurants, aims to reach a £2million target for the cause, building on the success of its non-profit restaurant Beat 6, which raised over £1million earlier this year.

Every meal enjoyed at Bamboléo will help raise funds to support cancer patients and their families across Scotland.

The two-level, 48-seat restaurant offers guests an a la carte menu featuring a choice of tapas, starters, mains and desserts and will be available for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday, alongside a Spanish Sunday Roast menu served all day Sunday.

Bamboléo also offers a specially curated wine list boasting an impressive assortment of Spanish and world wines.

Six Company chief executive and founder Nico Simeone said: "I am really excited about the next steps in our fundraising efforts for Beatson Cancer Charity with the launch of Bamboléo.

“It's incredible that we've already reached this milestone, and we're excited to welcome customers to our first Spanish cuisine-inspired restaurant."

HERA, Greek restaurant London, The Staff Canteen

HERA, London

Named after the Greek goddess, HERA Restaurant has this week opened its doors at Stratford Cross.

Championing Greek cuisine, HERA’s menu takes you on a journey where vegetables, meat and seafood all contribute to create a varied and enticing selection of dishes designed to share.

Mezze dishes such as anchovies or olives are available to start, before classics such as vegetable moussaka, beef meatballs and lamb chops.

There is also a cocktail lounge at the front of the 200-seater restaurant.

HERA is a part of a new development in east London, a stone's throw from the ABBA Arena, and directly opposite the V&A Museum which will open in spring 2026.

Homeslice, Harvey Nichols, The Staff Canteen

Homeslice, London

Popular London pizza group Homeslice are tonight (November 22) opening their latest site, on the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge.

It is the company’s first opening since 2018, having been founded in 2013 by Mark and Alan Wogan.

Homeslice will serve up the brand’s old school favourites, the 20” pizzas, made from freshly prepared 36-hour aged dough and topped with the most sumptuous of toppings, alongside a new menu reimagining some of the team’s favourite classics from eras past.

For the first time ever, Homeslice will be serving a number of dishes outside of pizza. A ‘for the counter’ list (from £6), for example, will serve up dough balls, stracciatella and caviar, deep-fried olives and meatball sliders.

Mains (from £18) will feature larger dishes like spaghetti hash with wagyu beef.

Mark Wogan, who also co-founded food brand Symplicity Foods, said: “This residency at Harvey Nichols is a fantastic opportunity for the Homeslice team to flex some culinary muscle.

“We want to serve a little something extra and have had great fun coming up with Homeslice takes on some classic dishes beyond pizza. As ever, pizza will be the focus but with an extra slice of indulgence across the menu.”

Berbere, new pizza restaurant London, The Staff Canteen

Berberè, London

Coming in December is the third instalment of Italian pizzeria Berberè.

With restaurants already in Kentish Town and Clapham, and 20 pizzerias in Italy, Berberè will open on Tottenham Court Road on Thursday, December 5.

Founded in 2010, by Calabrian brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, the award-winning pizzeria is currently recognised as the world’s fifth best artisan pizzeria by 50 Top Pizza.

The Tottenham Court Road menu will offer a selection of favourites including the margherita, the signature diavola piccante with spicy salami, Calabrian ’nduja and Neapolitan mozzarella, and the norma with baked aubergines, basil & walnut pesto, and fior di latte mozzarella.

For the holiday season, a Christmas-themed pizza topped with Cotechino sausage, cavolo nero, Dijon mustard, horseradish, Asiago cheese, and fior di latte mozzarella will be available across all Berberè pizzerias.

Co-founder Salvatore said: “There’s a reason why London was where we decided to open our first pizzeria outside of Italy. Both myself and Matteo feel is a city in synergy with Berberè and everything we want to represent with the brand - it is vibrant, influenced by many cultures and cuisines, and it is constantly evolving.

“2024 has been an important year for Berberè, having opened in Bologna, Florence and Milan, and opening  new pizzeria in the heart of a city like London feels the perfect way to close the year.”
