Rasmus Kofoed's Restaurant Geranium, in Copenhagen, is named The World's Best Restaurant by The World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2022
The awards, which took place on July 18th in London, marked the 20th year of the global gastronomic ranking.
During the awards, it was announced that the three-Michelin-starred restaurant, led by chef Rasmus Kofoed and sommelier Søren Ledet, was not only the best restaurant in Europe but the best restaurant in the entire world taking the number one spot from Rene Redzepi’s Noma.

Along with that, he said: "It is also very exciting to recognise this diverse list of restaurants and see this vibrant culinary community coming together to celebrate in London."
Regarding receiving the award Rasmus told news wire Ritzau: “Just as we were called up I felt butterflies, adrenaline,” Kofoed told news wire Ritzau.
“I got tears in my eyes and I felt the warmest feeling that something we have been working on for so many years is coming together.”
Along with Geranium being ranked number one, two British restaurants were also rated in the top fifty. Jeremy Chan and Iré Hassan-Odukale's London restaurant Ikoyi was moved up from the long list - at 87th place - to 49th. Ikoyi joined The Clove Club, a long-time member of the 50 best which was ranked 35th.
Also Virgilio Martínez and Pía León's flagship Lima Restaurant Central climbed two places from last year to take the number two spot. Disfruta in Barcelona also moved up from fifth to third place.
