Michael Blades has been promoted to the position of head chef at Michelin-starred Upstairs by Tom Shepherd.

The British contemporary fine dining restaurant in Lichfield became the first Staffordshire venue to win a Michelin star in 2022. It is located above Tom’s father’s jewellery shop.

The 36-cover dining room offers a four or seven-course tasting menu.

Posting on social media, Tom confirmed: “It is with enormous pride to announce that chef Michael Blades has been promoted to head chef of Upstairs.

“In a friendship that has lasted over 11 years, Mike has been an absolute rock for me both personally and professionally. I feel so lucky to have him in my life as a mate, let alone as my right hand in the restaurant!

“Those that know Mike know what a phenomenal talent he is and personally it has been an honour to watch him develop and grow into the incredible chef he is today.

“He’s worked tirelessly and selflessly since day one to help us achieve everything we have at the restaurant and I can quite honestly say there is no one more deserving of this promotion.

“I can’t wait to see him launch himself into this new chapter and I’ll continue to be there to support him all the way, I think we’re about to witness a new superstar emerge!

“Congratulations Mike, love you to absolute bits mate, go smash it.”
