Hanakouji Sawada and Sushi Miyakawa receive three stars in the Hokkaido Michelin Guide 2017

Released four days ahead of the printed edition, The Hokkaido Michelin Guide 2017 was unveiled today revealing 22 new editions to this year’s guidebook.

Japanese restaurant, Hanakouji Sawada and Sushi Miyakawa have both achieved a coveted third star

Japanese restaurant, Hanakouji Sawada and Sushi Miyakawa have both achieved a coveted third star and join French restaurant, Moliere (all located in Sapporo’s Chuo Ward) and Hanakomichi Ishida who have both retained their three stars in this year’s gastronomic guide.

According to The Asahi Shimbun, Masaaki Miyakawa from Sushi Miyakawa said: “This is a result that I have committed myself to achieving through cuisine with heart and soul, supported by people around me including customers and staff." 

Tempura araki is also new to the guide with two stars as is Yamahisa which was awarded one star. A total of 76 restaurants received stars in the second edition of the Hokkaido Michelin Guide with a total of 22 new entries.

The 2017 guide also rewarded 116 restaurants with a Bib Gourmand

The 2017 guide also rewarded 116 restaurants with a Bib Gourmand for restaurants serving high quality food at affordable prices. This included Tomikawa Seimensho which specialises in ramen and Soba Restaurant Ikkyuan.

A total of 431 were recognised in this year’s guide.

The printed edition of the Hokkaido Michelin Guide 2017 is due to go on sale on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 3,240 yen ($29).
