Alinea: Chef Achatz smilingTwelve restaurants from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants List 2014 are auctioning exclusive dining opportunities in aid of Farm Africa. The Twelve Days of Christmas Auction will take place over the twelve consecutive days leading up to Christmas, and diners will have twelve days to bid for the chance to dine at their favourite restaurant from a list of…yes, that’s right, twelve. Each day will see a new restaurant open for bidding, starting with Chicago’s three Michelin starred Alinea, which has recently retained its three Michelin stars. Throughout the eleven days after, bidding will start on Amber (The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hong Kong); Asador Etxebarri (Spain); Restaurant Andre (Singapore); Astrid Y Gaston (Peru); Le Calandre (Italy); De Librije (The Netherlands); Mani (Brazil); Attica (Australia); Per Se (USA); Osteria Francescana (Italy); and Mugaritz (Spain). Spring snacking - gardens by the Bay Pam-Williams-Jones, Director of Fundraising and Communications, called the event “a one-off chance to experience a unique meal in one of the world’s top restaurants.” “Whilst the luxurious dining rooms of the restaurants on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants List are a world away from African villages,” she said, “preparing and sharing food brings us all together. It could not be more fitting that leading restaurants and chefs have got behind this campaign with such passion.” Farm Africa is a charity supporting farmers in Africa to build food and income security, by focusing on ‘climate smart’ agricultural and forestry techniques. They have run a number of events involving chefs and restaurateurs over the years, including a climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro last year, led by executive head chef of Dinner by Heston-Blumenthal, Ashley Palmer-Watts. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is an annual list organised by William Reed, offering an annual snapshot of the opinions and experience of over 900 international restaurant industry experts. With no pre-determined check-list of criteria, the list is simple composed of votes on the best dining experience, whether simple or gourmet. Bidding opens on November 21st.
