Entrants for the next UK Pastry Open revealed

Eight entrants have been announced for the 2015 UK Pastry Open, which will be taking place at the Restaurant Show in October. ‘African Savanna’, the Valrhona chocolate dessertThe competition, which will be judged by some of the UK’s top pastry chefs, will award four prizes on the day: • Overall Winner with the highest total marks • Best Chocolate Display • Best Sugar Display • Best Tasting Fruit/chocolate entremets After further consideration, and at a later date, the official UK Team squad selection for the Coupe Du Monde de la Pâtisserie 2017, will be announced, based on the results of the UK Pastry Open. The overall winner will be automatically selected to be part of the next official Pastry Team which will represent the UK at the next Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie, (Pastry World Cup), in Lyon in 2017. The eight candidates are: Chocolate Dale Desimone - Grosvenor House Hotel Chris Zammit – Camilleri Kitchen Richie Heppell - RAF Officers Mess John Costello - Nestle Abdelhalim MESSAOUDI Chris Seddon - Coutts Sugar Joakim Prat - Maitre Chou‘Lyceum’ the frozen fruit dessertx Florian Poirot - Florian Poirot Each candidate will have to choose between either a carnival and fairground theme or fairytale and will be asked to prepare within 6 hours either a sugar display or a chocolate display. Candidates will be judged on the cleanliness and organisation of work, variety of skills, techniques used and innovation, neatness of work, harmony and aesthetic in line with the rules, as well as how the dessert is integrated in the display for presentation. At the last Coupe du Monde, the UK Pastry Team came 6th, which means they will go straight through to the final competition in Lyon, bypassing the European Coupe du Monde, which normally determines the European teams that go forward to the final competition.
