The Staff Canteen
On March 10, modern British restaurant, Almeida, will be hosting “Kitchen Kick Off” in celebration of the 6 Nations rugby tournament. A one-off event for food lovers and sporting fans alike, the evening will comprise a tasting menu created by an impressive line-up of six high profile chefs, each representing one of the participating countries. The evening will begin with a drinks and canapés reception, after which guests will be treated to six courses created by some of London’s finest chefs. Representing Scotland, Almeida’s very own Tommy Boland will be serving up Roasted Scottish lamb, charred lettuce, carrots, wild garlic and almonds. Hoping to score the winning try for Italy will be Sartoria Chef Patron, Francesco Mazzei, with a dish of Tortelli with burrata, ‘nduja and aged Modena balsamic vinegar. Flying the flag for Ireland will be Robin Gill from The Dairy with his Bacon and cabbage speciality, whilst weighing in for Wales will be Bryn Williams of Odette’s offering a dessert of Jaffa cake with a Welsh twist. The culinary mascot for the French team will be Michelin-starred Chef Eric Chavot, offering Salmon en mélasse with chilli slaw. Finally, Andy Wilson of Ashdown Park will be cooking up his Portland crab, salt baked beetroot, lemon emulsion and hazelnut dish, hoping to touchdown on behalf of The Roses. In addition to the culinary tournament, guests can also take part in an auction, from which all proceeds will go to Sports Relief, and further entertainment will be provided by the evening’s host. Priced at £90 per person, Kitchen Kick Off promises to provide an evening of excellent food, friendly rivalry and a rare opportunity to enjoy a menu created by a line-up of some of the city’s best chefs, all coming together in celebration of 6 Nations.
