Nestled in the historic mountain retreat of Rosa Alpina, St. Hubertus’ idyllic surroundings has won the restaurant acclaim since transforming from a simple pizzeria to an upscale eatery receiving its first star in the Michelin Guide back in 2000. Chef Norbert Niederkofler has used his unique surroundings to produce a menu that truly captures the Alpine and Ladin flavours of the South Tyrol region using only the best quality ingredients sourced from local farmers and suppliers.

Michael Ellis, international director in charge of the Michelin
guides comments: "Ode to the surrounding nature using the delicious produce of the alpine region, and to the farmers and local producers with whom he works every day, Norbert Niederkofler’s dishes tell a thousand and one stories! Discovering his cuisine is an
unforgettable human experience full of emotion."

There are also three new two starred restaurants and twenty two new one stars to enter the guide this year.

Joining the list of two starred restaurants include Matteo Mettulio's La Siriola based in South Tyrol, Alberto Faccani's Magnolia and Andrea Aprea's Vun in Milan.

Special awards also went to Gambero in Brescia for Most Improved; Meo Modo in Siena for Best Front of House and to Stube Gourmet for Best Young Chef which was awarded to Alessio Longhini, which was also awarded a star. The Best Female Chef award will be announced in three months.

Elsewhere, both Carlo Cracco and Claudio Sadler have gone from two to one star at their eponymous restaurants both situated in Milan.

17 restaurants have also been awarded Bib Gourmands bringing the total in this year's guide to 258.

This year’s listing was revealed at a live launch event earlier today (November 16, 2017) at the Regio Theatre in Parma.

With the new additions, Michelin Guide Italia 2018 can boast to having a total of 356 restaurants listed in the prestigious guide, second only to France.
