For the second year in a row, Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume was awarded the top ranking in La Liste’s Top 1000 restaurants in the world.

L’Enclume hit top spot for the first time last year, Simon becoming the first ever UK chef to achieve that accolade, since La Liste launched in 2016.

Looking into 2025, the three Michelin-starred restaurant in Cartmel, Cumbria, shares the number one ranking with eight other restaurants across the world, who also achieved a 99.5% rating.

Those restaurants are Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl (Switzerland), Guy Savoy (France), La Vague d’Or (France), Le Bernardin (USA), Lung King Heen (China), Matsukawa (Japan), Schwarzwaldstube (Germany) and SingleThread (USA).

A post from L’Enclume on Instagram read: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce that L’Enclume has been ranked as the number one restaurant by La Liste 1000 - for the second year in a row.

“As the only British restaurant to achieve the number one ranking in La Liste’s nine-year history, this is a moment of immense pride for our entire team.

“To make this even more special, La Liste awarded England the ‘New Destination Champion Award’, marking it as a region that deserves to be highlighted on the gastronomic map.

“Representing British gastronomy on this global stage feels truly significant, showcasing the incredible talent across our restaurant scene — not only in London but throughout the entire country. It is an exciting and important moment for UK restaurants.

“To our guests and friends—thank you. Your support means everything, and we never take it for granted.”

In total, 75 UK restaurants featured in La Liste’s Top 1000, compared to 78 last year.

The highest ranked other than L’Enclume were Core by Clare Smyth (97.5%), The Ritz (97%), Ynyshir (96%), Moor Hall (95.5%), Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester (95%), Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons (95%) and Hélène Darroze at The Connaught (94.5%).

The percentage score is calculated by a combination of guidebook and customer reviews.

USA and France have the most establishments in the list, which was revealed at a ceremony in Paris this week.

England was among the individual award winners as the ‘international selection’ in the ‘new destination champion’ category. It is defined as ‘a city, region, or country, in full gastronomic boom, soon to be a must for gourmets’.

Chefs listed for their part in England being selected were Clare Smyth, Simon Rogan, Margot Henderson, and Josh and Victoria Overington.
