A famous chef dubbed ‘The Curry Queen’ has announced the closure of her restaurant, but also the beginning of a new culinary chapter.

Dipna Anand and her father, Gulu Anand, are closing their famous restaurant, The Brilliant Southall, on April 7, 2025.

Founded in 1975, The Brilliant has been a beloved spot in Southall, known for its Punjabi cuisine with Kenyan influences.

It has attracted food lovers worldwide, including King Charles III.

Before closing for good, there will be a special dinner on April 4 featuring popular dishes such as masala chicken and samosa chaat.

Guests can also get a 10% discount on takeaway orders that night.

In exciting news, shortly after the original location closes, Dipna will be opening a new restaurant, Brilliant Gastro, also in Southall, in mid-April.

This new venture is set to blend Punjabi roots with modern influences.

She said: “It may be the end of an era for Brilliant Southall, but after 50 years, the Brilliant brand has gained an iconic status in Indian dining, and we have to ensure that it is constantly evolving to both reflect the preferences of diners, and the food I love to eat, so there’s something delicious for everyone.”

Marcus Blake, managing director, St George part of the Berkeley Group said: “Dipna Anand is such an iconic chef, and welcoming her to Parkside Yards signals a huge milestone for the evolution of The Green Quarter.

“This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to building a thriving and dynamic neighbourhood that embraces both new opportunities and local culture, enhancing the living experience for our residents and creating something truly special for the wider community.”

Dipna has expanded her culinary empire with other ventures, including Dipna Anand Kitchen and Bar in Milton Keynes and The Plough pub in Norwood Green.
