Michelin Guide UK 2024: Reactions
Last night Michelin Guide released its selection for 2024. Here are some reactions to the announcements from the chefs and restaurants awarded accolades in this year's guide
This year celebrating 50 years of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland, the live ceremony took place at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.
We caught up with 2 Michelin starred chefs Aktar Islam from Opheem and Mark Donald from The Glenturret Lalique, as well as 3 Michelin starred chef Brett Graham and his head chef Tom Spenceley from The Ledbury about their successes.
Commenting about gaining his second star, Aktar Islam said “For me the most important thing is about what it does for our city.
I think Birmingham has always been pushing hard. Over the last twenty, twenty five years - myself, Glynn [Purnell], Luke [Tipping], Brad [Carter] and Adam [Stokes]- we have been working really hard to change the perception of our city from a gastronomic desert to a bastian of gastronomy.
Glynn and I, in 2004, had a chat about how we can change the perception of the city and what people believe to be what we stand for. It’s incredible to say we are still on that journey, still working in the city and we are obviously achieving incredible things.”
In the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2024 there was a total of 1,162 recommended restaurants, including:
9 Three MICHELIN Star restaurants (1 new)
27 Two MICHELIN Star restaurants (6 new)
170 One MICHELIN Star restaurants (18 new)
33 MICHELIN Green Star restaurants (6 new)
127 Bib Gourmand restaurants (20 new)
