Keeley and Kirk Haworth to relaunch Plates as a permanent residency
Keeley and Kirk Haworth are set to reopen a permanent site for Plates, their fine-dining plant-based restaurant, two years after they gave up the original premises
The siblings will open the doors to their new restaurant, located on 538 Kingsland Road in Dalston, London, on March 2nd, 2022, in partnership with Tony Conigliaro's Untitled bar.
With bookings set to go live next week, the restaurant promises to bring back Kirk's trademark fine-dining plant-based cookery.
The original site, where they also hosted workshops and cookery classes, closed in 2020 due to the pandemic, and they have been waiting to secure a permanent location since.
Sharing the news on social media, they said: "Thanks for all the support and enquiries over the last 2 years for the restaurant, we truly can’t wait to reopen our doors to you and welcome all our previous loyal and new guests, let’s do this 2022 🌟🙏❤️"
Kirk has worked in some of the world’s most high-end establishments including Restaurant Sat Bains, The French Laundry, The Square, and Quay in Sydney. He was classically-trained by his father, Michelin-starred chef Nigel Haworth.
The chef suffers from Lyme disease, an illness often overlooked by medical professionals because it is so hard to detect. He contracted it when bitten by a tick in Australia, and, receiving little help from his doctor, took matters into his own hands. He learnt about nutrition, switched to a plant-based diet and practiced meditation and yoga assiduously until he saw an improvement in his health.
The residency launched in 2017 in collaboration with his sister, creative lead and managing director Keeley Haworth, allowed him to create food reflecting his new diet, and was a means of showing what could be done with plant-based cookery when executed at a high level,
In 2019, in view of creating a hub for hospitality workers, Kirk and Keeley began hosting Chef's Wellness Events, where guest speakers were invited to discuss topics such as physical and mental health, the practice of mindfulness and yoga, nutrition and more.
Last year, Kirk became the first plant-based chef to appear on Great British Menu, narrowly missing out on a spot in the national finals.
