Gordon Ramsay Restaurants sack senior sous chef over racist comments
A Senior sous chef has been fired from Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill after sending a series of racist messages to another chef on social media.
The comments were made public by chef Jason Howard in a now deleted post after the victim shared a series of racist and hateful messages that they had received online.
The messages, which have been seen by The Staff Canteen, show a series of abusive comments, racial slurs and even death threats to the chef.
The Staff Canteen can confirm that since these messages came to light, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants have terminated the chef's contract with immediate effect, notifying the police, and condemning the chef’s behaviour.
In a statement, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants said: “Gordon Ramsay Restaurants does not tolerate any form of hateful or discriminatory behaviour in public or private. The comments and conversation shared on social media were unacceptable, racist and hateful. They violated our values of diversity and mutual respect. We reported this incident to the police and took the decision to immediately terminate the employment of the chef in question.”
The statement, which was also shared by the Savoy Grill, has been welcomed by chefs from across the hospitality industry, including Jason Howard who published the messages on his Instagram account.
In a post on his Instagram, Jason said: “It’s amazing to see that this type of behaviour is not tolerated, and has no place in our society or work environments. And to The Savoy Grill thank you, no one wants to see someone lose their job, but we need to stand for what is right”.
We reached out to the chef about the accusations made but they are yet to comment.
