Dine Contract Catering Apprentice Scheme open for 2014

The Staff Canteen
Dine Contract Catering, is taking applications for up to 14 apprentices to work across its business, from catering to sales. The Apprenticeship Programme, looking for 14 school leavers of any age, with a maximum of level two education, is designed to offer opportunities to young people who have the qualities that make them potentially very valuable employees but who do not want to take the route of a degree. Dine Contract Catering believe bringing new talent on board is the only way that the UK hospitality industry can remain at the forefront of innovation and continue to stake a claim on the global stage. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate ‘passion, creativity and a team work mentality’ says Steve Kyffin, Dine Contract Catering Operations Director, adding: “Contract catering operations have a huge range of opportunities for intelligent, switched on young people, whether they aspire to be a chef or marketing manager. "Our current apprentices are just finishing their first year and are thriving from the learning and development given to them. Permanent positions have been earmarked for the Apprentices and their evidence diaries are now packed with examples of what they have learnt”. All roles are paid positions, and each young person will also study for an NVQ in hospitality. Throughout their time with Dine Contract Catering, every apprentice is assigned a unit manager as a mentor, as part of the company’s commitment to personalised development for each of its staff. They will also each take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, where they will be asked to demonstrate their skills in hospitality, their outdoor survival skills and evidence of charitable work in the local community. “We want catering to be seen as a real career option by young people who have a can do attitude,” Kyffin says. “We need to start engaging with young people at an early stage in their development, and show them the possibilities.” The Dine Contract Catering Apprenticeships run for a minimum of 12 months at various Dine operated business and industry, Care and Further Education sites.
