The Staff Canteen Live kicks off with Tom Aikens, Dominic Chapman and Sam Moody

The Staff Canteen Live got off to a great start with live demos from Tom AikensDominic Chapman and Sam Moody at the Hotel and Catering Show in Bournemouth.  The day kicked off with a live cooking demonstration from Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens of Restaurant Tom Aikens in Chelsea, who cooked  baked scallop, yeasted mash potato, fermented grains and bread soup, showing off lots of different techniques like sous vide, dehydrating and making a consommé. I've found love again at 74, says chef Prue Leith

One of the final chapters of Prue Leith’s autobiography, Relish: My Life on a Plate, ends with the words: “I will always be grateful for having had such a wonderful second chance at love.”  Two years on from its publication, the chef-turned-writer reveals that at the age of 74, she has found love a third time. Her latest chap, she says, is “a distinct improvement” on the last. Read more from The Telegraph  

Hot stuff! The Brighton chilli burger diners have to sign a DISCLAIMER before eating

A super-spicy burger on sale in Brighton is being touted as the hottest in Britain - after five people landed in hospital attempting to eat it.  Nick Gambardella, who serves the XXX Hot Chilli Burger in his restaurant in the popular seaside town, asks customers - who must be over-18 - to sign a legal disclaimer before trying it.  The dish has a chilli sauce on it measuring an eye-watering 9.2million on the Scoville scale which measures spicy heat in foods - compared to an average chilli pepper at 500 Scoville units. Good Food Social to launch first pop-up restaurant in Coventry

Pop-up restaurants are a great way for new chefs to test their ideas and create menus that showcase local produce.  Depending on where they are located, they can even raise awareness of the cultural heritage of a venue to the wider community.  All sorts of weird and wonderful locations have played host to a pop-up restaurant, from supper clubs at celebrities homes and empty buildings to the roof of the Westfield shopping centre in East London for the Olympics!  Now its Coventry’s turn to experience this adventurous dining trend, as local company Good Food Social is about to launch the city’s first pop-up restaurant.
