Chefs invited to enter BCF 2016 Chef of the Year competition

The British Culinary Federation (BCF) is inviting chefs from around the UK to enter its 2016 Chef of the Year Competition. Peter GriffithsThe event, which has become a showcase for the UK’s finest culinary skills, is offering a share of £4,000 prize money, with the winner receiving a cash prize of £2,500, a Grant SV Stirring Unit and dinner for two at a Michelin starred restaurant. Peter Griffiths, competition organiser, said: “The interest and excitement for the competition has already started to build and we are delighted to be continuing our special partnership with Aubrey Allen, the chef’s butcher, AHDB Beef & Lamb and Grant sous vide."

The winner will also have the opportunity to join the squad of the English National Culinary Team which will be representing their country at the Culinary World Cup in Erfurt, Germany in October. Plus the accolade of joining an elite group of past winners, which include Luke Tipping and Matt Cheal from the Michelin starred restaurant, Simpsons; Michelin starred chefs Simon Hulstone and Richard Turner, and past UK Bocuse d’Or representative and Michelin starred chef Adam Bennett, England’s National team member Simon Webb and Scottish Chef of the Year 2015, Adam Handling. The competition has again attracted a top line-up of judges for 2016 which includes Ashley Palmer-Watts, Dinner at Heston Blumenthal; Sat Bains, Restaurant Sat Bains; Brian Turner CBE; Roger Narbett MCA and Adam Handling.Luke Tipping profile pic The panel of judges will be looking for chefs who can demonstrate precision in preparation, be inventive in presentation and produce an astounding taste using the ‘Best of British’ ingredients with great provenances. The closing date for entries is Friday 22nd January and the semi-final cook off will be held at University College Birmingham on Monday 22ndFebruary, followed by a Butchery Workshop on Monday 21st March and the final on Monday 11th April at UCB.
