"All vegans are now banned from Fyre"
Celebrity chef John Mountain has banned all vegans from his Fyre restaurant located in Connolly, Australia.
The story reported on social news site JOE, revealed that John Mountain's ban came after a vegan customer complained about the lack of vegan options, triggering a war of online reviews between meat-eaters and plant-based diet followers.
The incident occurred when a young girl inquired about vegan options before visiting the restaurant.
Unfortunately, due to a private party, the chef forgot to accommodate her request and the only option available was a vegetable dish, which she found unsatisfying and expensive.
Expressing her disappointment, the customer emphasised the importance of inclusive menus in today's society.
In response to the complaint, John shared a statement that read: "Sadly all vegans are now banned from Fyre for mental health reasons. We thank you for your understanding."
John who's known for his appearances on the Great British Menu and Chef Race UK v US did not take the criticism lightly.
The controversial decision led to a reviewing war between supporters and opponents of Mountain's stance, resulting in both five-star and one-star ratings for Fyre.
While some meat-eaters praised the chef's refusal to cater to vegans, others criticized the polarizing debate and the use of fake reviews as a weapon against businesses.
John, who has an extensive culinary background, including working with renowned chefs like Heston Blumenthal and Marco Pierre White, expressed his frustration with negative reviews and stated that the controversy was damaging his business.
The ban on vegans at Fyre has raised questions about inclusivity in the food industry and the growing demand for vegan options.
Despite differing opinions, the incident has brought attention to the challenges faced by restaurants in catering to diverse dietary preferences.
As the debate continues to unfold online, it remains to be seen whether John's decision will have a lasting impact on his restaurant's reputation and customer base.
