Born in Lebanon to a Syrian father and Lebanese mother, Anissa is the author of numerous award-winning cookbooks including Sweet Middle East; Levant; The Fifth Quarter, An Offal Cookbook; Modern Mezze; Savory Baking from the Mediterranean; Mediterranean Street Food; Café Morocco; and Lebanese Cuisine.

Anissa started her career working for Sotheby’s as their representative for the Middle East, she then subsequently worked as a freelance art consultant and owned an antiques shop in Paris. In 1994, encouraged by a friend in the publishing world, and inspired by the Lebanese civil war, Anissa wrote her first cookbook, Lebanese Cuisine. This was followed by Street Café Morocco. Both cookbooks achieved considerable acclaim.

As well as writing her cookbooks, Anissa also writes for the Guardian and other publications. She speaks 3 languages fluently: Arabic, French and English and also speaks some Italian.

FEAST: Food of the Islamic World has a wide variety of recipes all of which derive or are strongly influenced by her heritage which includes: Indonesia Crab Curry, Swordfish Brochette and Poussin tagine with carrots, onion and lemon and many more.
