Great British Menu 2022 chefs: Calum Montgomery, Scotland heat
32 year-old Chef patron of edinbane Lodge Calum Montgomery is one of four chefs representing Scotland on Great British Menu 2022
Series 17 of the competition starts on February 1st 2022 on BBC Two at 8pm and will air at the same time every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for eight weeks.
Calum is competing against chefs Adam Handling, Fraser Smith and Stuart Ralston in a bid to represent Scotland in the national finals, and ultimately serve a dish at the banquet celebrating the BBC's 100th anniversary. This is Calum's first time on Great British Menu.
Fraser was the first to leave the competition after cooking his fish course. Despite putting up some great dishes, Calum was next to leave the Great British Menu kitchen, leaving Adam and Stuart to face judges Tom Kerridge, Nisha Katona and Ed Gamble on Thursday 3rd March 2022.
Both chefs put up a good fight, but Adam was the one to win over the judges, letting him through to represent Scotland in the regional Finals.
Biography
Born in Portree on the Isle of Skye, Calum's first hospitality role was at the Cuillin Hills Hotel, after which he went to train as a chef under MasterChef: The Professionals winner, executive chef and lecturer at the city of Glasgow College, Gary Maclean.
He then did a stint at One Devonshire Gardens, then worked at 5 Star Ullinish Lodge for a year, where he won the sous-chef of the year award in the Scottish Hotel Awards 2015, as well as 3 AA-Rosettes aged just 26. Next he went to Kinloch Lodge to work under executive chef Marcello Tully, where he stayed for four years, retaining the restaurant's Michelin star until he left to open Edinbane Lodge in 2018.
Since then, the restaurant with rooms has earned multiple accolades, including 3 AA Rosettes, the Best Newcomer of the Year Award from the CIS in 2019, and mentions from both Harden's and Michelin.
The chef's dishes on Great British Menu will celebrate iconic BBC cookery programme, 'Ready, Steady, Cook' as well as the 'Hogmanay Live' show and the Scottish tradition of 'First Footing.'
