Sam Carter
Sam Carter is the Chef Owner of Cambridge's one Michelin-starred Restaurant 22.
With more than 17 years full time experience working within hospitality, Sam represents a young chef who's set on mastering his craft and creating extraordinary dishes for Restaurant 22's diners.
Before opening Restaurant 22, Sam held positions at numerous restaurants across the country including positions within the Gordon Ramsay Restaurants Group at Gordon's Maze, BaxterStorey, Restaurant Associates, and UBS.
Sam has also worked at Aaron Patterson's Hambleton Hall, Castle Rock Brewery, The Fox and Grapes, as well as running his own private catering firm offering services for anapés, weddings, dinner parties, BBQ, retreats.
In 2018, Sam opened his debut Restaurant 22 in Cambridge, which has since gone onto win numerous awards including 3 AA rossettes as well as a Michelin star.
Sam won one Michelin Star for Restaurant 22 following the release of the Michelin Guide 2023.
At Restaurant 22, dishes are changed as often as the produce coming in varies - which can be daily, weekly, or, occasionally, longer.
The result is an ingredient-led menu where each element has its place, the team has adapted to the size of the kitchen by serving most of the food they get in within a 24 hour timeframe.
Restaurant 22
Restaurant 22 is the Michelin-starred of husband and wife team, Sam Carter and Alex Olivier.
House in a lovingly restored Victorian townhouse, which backs onto the River Cam and Jesus Green, is home to exciting modern British dining.
The menu changes often depending on what seasonal produce our Cambridgeshire partners have delivered. Our wine list is diverse and designed to perfectly complement the bold flavours on the menu.
Restaurant 22 was awarded 3 AA Rosettes in September 2022 and it’s first Michelin Star in March 2023.
By night, its atmospheric candlelit dining rooms offer a special space to enjoy inventive yet fulfilling food for all occasions.
Sam’s menu is inspired by his many years working at Michelin level at some of the country’s top restaurants (Hambleton Hall and Maze by Gordon Ramsay to name only two). But the real inspiration comes from the ingredients delivered each day. We use the best local suppliers and present a regularly changing menu that reflects the most seasonal produce the area has to offer.
In March 2023, Restaurant 22 was awarded one Michelin star at the Guide's annual awards ceremony.
