Hello from Cooking Towers!
Can you believe that it's October already? It's been a pretty exciting month of awards including the Michelin Guide UK and Ireland 2019 - you can find out more about the chefs at the newly starred restaurants here.
There's also lots of new members joining our website and downloading the Chef Plus app so we'd like to welcome them! Remember, if you upload your images, recipes, videos and news, we'll give you a shout out on our social media channels.
If you've just joined The Staff Canteen, here's some chefs that you should be following this month:
Fabio Barbato
Paul McLoughlin
Top recipe pick of the month
The most popular recipe this month was "Poor Man's Goose" - Tom Brown's main course from this year's Great British Menu Banquet. Inspired by a recipe from the NHS archives, Tom's winning dish was a whole roasted duck with potato croquette and a duck sausage.
Most read article this month
The most read article on The Staff Canteen this month (no surprise!) was the Michelin Guide UK and Ireland 2019 full list (including deletions). There were 21 new one Michelin starred restaurants and three new two stars: Core by Clare Smyth, Kitchen Table at Bubbledogs and Moor Hall. Many in the industry were shocked to discover that there were no new three star restaurants in this year's guide.
What foods are in season in October?
There's some delicious produce at it's peak in October, including mussels, celeriac, duck and pumpkin. Make sure you upload your seasonal recipes and images to the Chef+ app, and we'll share the best ones on our social media channels.
Member of the Month September 2018
Our Chef Plus Member of the Month for September is Ramon Tomasini. Ramon is the executive chef at the F&D Kitchen and Bar in Lake Mary, Florida. He cooks American food using the freshest produce and taking inspiration from his Puerto Rican heritage.
For his prizes, Ramon won a copy of Rogan: The Cookbook by Simon Rogan and The Staff Canteen 10th Anniversary mug.
