Jake Siddle will be stepping down as Head Chef at Newcastle's House of Tides to open a new restaurant with his wife Laura Siddle in Durham later this year.

His departure was announced by House of Tides owner Kenny Atkinson via social media, where he congratulated both Jake and Laura for their service over the last 9 years.

In a post on his Instagram, Kenny said: “On Saturday night we said goodbye to these two. Laura and Jake have been with us since the very start of our journey at House of Tides. They have both have played a massive part in the success and achievements at House of Tides over the 9 years we have been open.”

Thanking them for their service, he added: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to see you both grow individually and as newlyweds too during your time with us. Thank you guys for all your hard work, drive and support, you will both be missed. We wish you all the best on your new journey and we can’t wait to see the next chapter in you journey.”

Speaking exclusively to The Staff Canteen, Jake confirmed that he was leaving the Michelin-starred, 4 AA rosette winning restaurant, to start his own restaurant with wife Laura.

Commenting on the new venture, he told The Staff Canteen: “We’ve both left as me and Laura are opening our own restaurant together. It’s going to be a tasting menu, in Durham and opening springtime. We should be announcing more in the coming weeks about it.”

As it stands, Kenny confirmed that a new head chef had not yet been finalised and that he was still considering who would replace Jake, but that he was hoping to appoint a member of staff internally.

Speaking to The Staff Canteen, Kenny said: “I’ve always been a big believer about promoting within so I’m going to see how we get on over the next month or so before I make a decision.”

Kenny and his wife Abbie opened Newcastle’s House of Tides in 2014 before achieving his dream of bringing a star back to the city for the first time in 20 years in 2015.

In 2023, House of Tides was ranked No.54 in SquareMeal’s UK Top 100 Restaurants.
