Unruly Pig again tops UK best gastropubs list
Suffolk’s Unruly Pig has, for the third time, topped the list of the best gastropubs in the UK.
Dating back to the 16th century, the Unruly Pig in Bromeswell has been run by Brendan Padfield and chef patron Dave Wall, since 2015.
They top the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list, also winning in 2022 and 2024, having first entered the list in 2017.
The result was announced at a ceremony at Plaisterers’ Hall in London on January 27, with chefs Andrew Pern, Dave Wall and Tom De Keyser preparing five courses for their peers.
Number two in the list was Ashley Palmer-Watts’ The Devonshire in Soho, which also took the title of highest new entry.
Andrew Pern’s The Star Inn in Harome, North Yorkshire, rose up five places to third.
The highest climber in 2025 was The Bull in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, jumping up 39 places to number 11.
John Hooker, who runs number nine The Cornish Arms in Tavistock, was named Chef of the Year.
Tommy Banks’ Abbey Inn in Byland was named Sustainable Pub of the Year.
Tom Kerridge had two inclusions in the list, with The Coach placing 29th and the Hand & Flowers at 32.
There was also a One to Watch named, for a pub not currently in the list, but believe should be on the radar. That went to the White Horse in Fyfield, Oxfordshire, run by Mark and Kay Chandler. Former National Chef of the Year finalist Grahame Wickham has recently become head chef.
