Greens restaurant in Sale, co-owned by TV chef Simon Rimmer, has announced its closure “with immediate effect”.

It follows the shock of the trailblazing West Didsbury branch shutting its doors earlier this year, more than 33 years after opening.

Sunday Brunch co-host Simon Rimmer and business partner Simon Connolly opened vegetarian and vegan restaurant Greens in Sale, Manchester in the summer of 2022.

A statement on social media from the last remaining Greens branch read: “It is with deep regret that the board of directors and shareholders have decided to close the doors permanently on Greens Sale with immediate effect.

“We’ve done everything possible to make this work, but it is now clear the business is untenable.

“We’d like to thank everyone, team members and guests, who have been on the Greens journey with us.”

When closing in West Didsbury, Greens cited increased rent, power, food and staff costs as making it “impossible” to continue trading.

Simon Rimmer competed in Great British Menu back in 2006, losing out in the northern heat to Marcus Wareing.

When opening in Sale, plans were announced for further Greens restaurants across the north west of England, but such sites never came to pass.
