Three stars for the Fat Duck plus two stars for Raby Hunt in the Michelin Guide UK 2017
It's a day of firsts for the Michelin Guide UK as they launch the 2017 guide live in London.
Last year there were no three stars but all that changed today when Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck regained the prestigious title.
We are also excited to announce Raby Hunt have joined the two star club, they take their place alongside the likes of Midsummer House, Restaurant Sat Bains and L'Enclume.
Voted the most useful of the guides by our followers, the Michelin Guide is highly anticipated and even more so this year with the live event. It always divides opinion but the Michelin Guide UK 2017 is out today and with it comes a whole new host of restaurants, pubs and hotels that have gained themselves one star 18 in fact.
The new one stars in London include Five Fields, Céleste, Ellory, The Ritz, Veeraswamy, Trinity and The Ninth.
Joining them from other parts of the country with one star includes Crown, Tudor Room, Forest Side, Thomas Carr at The Olive Room, Wild Rabbit, Gilpin Hotel and Lake House, Sosban and the Old Butchers, James Sommerin and Heron & Grey, Peel's (also winner of the Michelin Welcome and Service Award 2017).
Rebecca Burr, Editor of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2017, said: “London’s great variety of establishments, its history, but also its dynamism and vitality are illuminated by the capital’s new Michelin Stars.
“The Ritz Restaurant and Veeraswamy, London’s oldest Indian restaurant, both receive One Michelin Star. These establishments have long and illustrious histories, but the cooking at both has never been better than it is today.
“There have been some excellent additions to the guide across both Great Britain and Ireland - restaurants that are producing consistently good food using excellent ingredients.”
For the first time Michelin also awarded a number of special awards including:
Michelin Female Chef Award 2017
Clare Smyth
Michelin Welcome and Service Award
Hampton Manor
New Head Chefs Retaining Stars
Gary Foulkes at Angler, Tom Brown at Outlaws at the Capital Hotel and Robert Potter at Bybrook Restaurant at the Manor House Hotel.
Special congratulations were given to Michael Wignall, who made a very successful move from Surrey to Devon and retained the Two Michelin Stars at Gidleigh Park.
With the list of those that have won also comes the unfortunate list of deletions. This year those that have lost include Hibiscus (now closed), the Square, L'Autre Pied and The Latymer amongst others.
Speaking about the Fat Duck regaining three stars Rebecca Burr said: “Our inspectors had many meals here during the course of the year and found the restaurant invigorated, rejuvenated and unquestionably worthy of being re-awarded our highest accolade.”
