It was announced today Friday, October 27, 2017 that The Pointer in Brill, Buckinghamshire has been named pub of the year in the Michelin Eating Out In Pubs 2018 guide.

Rebecca Burr, editor of the Michelin Eating Out In Pubs 2018 guide, said: “Not only is it a delightful place, but it is exceedingly well run by a young, personable team. They really pay attention to detail and nothing is every too much trouble for them.”

The 18th century village pub is owned by husband and wife, David and Fiona Howden who also have a 240 acre farm where they raise award winning rare breed cattle and pigs. The kitchen is led by executive head chef James Graham who had previously ran the kitchen at the country house hotel, Cowley Manor in the Cotswolds. James replaces former head chef Mini Patel who left The Pointer at the beginning of the year.

Rebecca continued: “The frequently changing a la carte menu offers a good range of modern dishes. Presentation is first rate, refinement and precision are there in equal measure, and much use is made of organic ingredients from their farm.”

The 2018 edition lists 470 pubs, 27 of which are new entries.

Rebecca said: “This year we have seen many ailing pubs being scrubbed up and reopend with the emphasis more on food, which has given them a new lease of life. It’s great to see pubs being brought back to life this way as they are often the heartbeat of towns and villages.”

This year’s guide also includes 15 pubs awarded a Michelin star including Tom Kerridge’s The Hand and Flowers - the only two Michelin starred pub - as well as The Coach which makes its debut this year. The Wild Honey Inn in Lisdoonvarna is another new entry to the list which was the first pub in Ireland to be awarded a star.

The Michelin Eating Out In Pubs 2018 guide is priced at £14.99 and can be purchased from bookshops and at http://travel.michelin.co.uk.
