The 2016 Michelin Guide - the winners
After the Michelin Guide 2015 failed to give us any new three or two stars, all eyes were on these two categories this year to see if the 2016 guide would be bringing us some better news. Well we can now reveal that there are once again no new three stars but don't despair as there are however two new two stars. The Araki and Umu Restaurant can now join the likes of Midsummer House, Gidleigh Park and Restaurant Sat Bains sitting in this category that contains 23 winners with this coveted title.
It's the guide that creates the most buzz and the one that divides opinion but the Michelin Guide 2016 is out today and with it comes a whole new host of restaurants, pubs and hotels that have gained themselves one star 15 in fact including the likes of Kenny Atkinson, The House of Tides, The Greenhouse and Portland Restaurant.
The new one stars in London include Lyle's, Bonhams, Portland and the Dining Room at the Goring, and in Leeds there's a star for The Man Behind the Curtain. Rebecca Burr, Editor of the Michelin Guide said: "The next generation of chefs are really coming through to give the established chefs a run for their money. They all have their own individual style and their ability - coupled with their confidence - looks set to lead them on to great things."

Although there may not be any new three stars, those at this top level should be celebrated for retaining their stars as Rebecca previously stated: "There aren’t as many in the UK but the ones we’ve got are very good and they work very hard to maintain that award. There are not many 3 stars in the world as that is a world class level and the business has got to right and got to be ready."
Speaking about the two new two stars Rebecca said: "It is a great compliment to London that when Sushi Master Mitsuhiro Araki closed his Three Star counter restaurant in Tokyo it was because he wanted to come to the UK to challenge himself in a different culture.
"Umu is a very different style of Japanese restaurant - chef Yoshinori Ishii has steadily been improving the food and he has taken it to a whole new level."
