THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

For the festive season, The Staff Canteen has rounded up a number of prizes to give away from big gifts to small. You name it we've got it. For the twenty-third day of our Christmas giveaway we have one box of vintage port to be won courtesy of Matthew Clark.

Did you know...over 50% of Port is consumed during November and December!

Christmas is a great time to upsell to your customers and give them a fantastic experience. To celebrate the 225th Anniversary of Sandeman, a limited production of 2000 Vintage Porto has been launched. With a collection of six different labels, each bottle represents a chapter in their rich history.

The Collection

The Word: In 1790, Sandeman aged 25 began his business venture by asking his father for a loan of £300. The bottle represents a word, the name of Sandeman which has become legendary.

The Spirit: This bottle was named due to the reputation which Sandeman created amongst his peers. He had modest expectations but determination and self-confidence led him to have a “great spirit of enterprise”.

The Journey: Through peace and war, shipments were made all over the world with some ships never returning. A bottle has been named in memory of the heroes that braved the journey and helped Sandeman reach every continent.

The Craft: For the workers who assisted Sandeman from the creation of stone terraces where the premium grapes are grown to the harvesting by hand, this bottle pays tribute to the search for perfection. No detail is spared in the craft of Porto, it requires great knowledge and experience.

The Pioneer: This bottle symbolises the pioneering spirit of Sandeman. He was the first to certify his Porto by having his signature burned onto the wine casks to guarantee providence.

The Hat & Cape: In 1928, artist George Massiot created a figure portraying a silhouette of a figure wearing the black Portuguese student’s cape and the Spanish caballero flat brimmed hat, while raising a glass of wine. This bottle is to acknowledge the creative advertisement which is associated in the present day with not only Sandeman but also Porto wine.

225 complete collections have been made and each is presented in a beautifully crafted wooden box including a commemorative anniversary book. Also available is a limited number of single bottles in individual presentation boxes, which are available through Matthew Clark.

Many outlets take around 20% of their annual sales in the months of November and December. Whether it's friends having a glass of Christmas cheer, work parties or family get together Christmas tends to be the time when everyone indulges and goes out a little more than usual, it's an excuse the celebrate and trade up from their usual tipple. It’s all about understanding why people are visiting your outlet at this time of year, and maximising opportunity to give them the best experience possible.

To be in with a chance of winning send your answer to the question below along with your name and contact details to cara@thestaffcanteen.com and include Christmas giveaway 2015 in the subject title.
