A Scottish hotel with an AA rosette restaurant has announced 60 jobs are at risk of termination.

The George Hotel, located in Inveraray, Scotland, is a historic establishment that has been owned and operated by the Clark family for over 160 years, spanning seven generations.

The hotel comprises two Grade A listed buildings: the main hotel, completed in 1776, and The First House, built in 1751 as part of Scotland's first planned town.

According to the BBC, Thomas McKay from administrators Begbie Traynor said the hotel has been struggling with "historic debts" which have been "crippling the cash flow" of the business.

He added: "The business has been in the Clark family for seven generations and their priority was to safeguard the jobs and future of the 60 full and part-time employees.

"The hotel has a fantastic history and beautiful location, offering excellent accommodation and food.

"The staff have also been fantastic in their hard work and everyone is determined to find the best possible outcome for the benefit of all stakeholders."

According to administrators, the business will operate as normal until a new owner is found.
