Salt Bae's Nusr-Et can't find staff despite offering "competitive salary" matching the price of mashed potatoes

Salt-Bae's Nusr-Et restaurant in London is hiring - but if you think you're likely to strike gold working for the restaurant charging £1,450 for a 24 Carat Golden tomahawk steak, think again.

After weeks of derision about the astronomical price it costs to eat there, the restaurant is now facing fresh criticism after it emerged that it is hiring chefs for the cost of the cheapest items on its menu.

Despite promising a "competitive salary" of £12 an hour,  the hourly rate for the chef de partie role being advertised is around the price of a  potato side dish, or a piece of corn on the cob - and although £12 isn't far off the national average salary for a CDP role, the extortionate prices charged at Nusr-Et do put this in sharp contrast.

To offer some perspective, if you were to order the same steak as celebrity Gemma Collins did when she visited the restaurant, you would have to work for more than 120 hours to be able to afford it.

The advert for the vacancy reads: “Amazing opportunity for an experienced Chef De Partie to join Nusret team in the new restaurant in London!

“As a Chef De Partie, you will be working with some of the finest ingredients from the UK and abroad in one of the most famous steakhouses in the world.

“You will play a vital part in a large team and will support the Head Chef during service.

“To the successful candidate Nusret London offers a highly competitive salary and excellent opportunities to develop a global career.

“If you’re a Chef de Partie looking to work [in] the famous steakhouse, send your CV, we want to hear from you!”

While the restaurant is attracting its fair share of media attention, it would seem hospitality workers aren't sold. Last month, a source told The Sun that despite Salt Bae making an in-person appearance at the restaurant to attract potential candidates, not a single one showed up.

In other news, a butcher and restaurateur in the North of England decided to offer his own budget-version of the meat at Salt Bae's restaurant at his Durham and Sunderland restaurants, charging £100 for two people, for what, in all but establishment, appears to be the same as Salt Bae's Golden Tomahawk.
