The deadline for the Salon Culinaire competition at next year’s Hospitality Show has been extended, meaning chefs looking to test their culinary skills now have until December 8th to enter.

The Salon Culinaire offers participants the chance to show off their expertise in front of an audience of food professionals at the show, which takes place at the NEC Birmingham. It consists of three key elements: the Salon Display, the Live Theatre and La Parade de Chefs. Salon Culinaire Chef Director James Tanner encouraged everyone to enter, and said: “The programme really does offer something for everyone, from experienced competitors to first-timers. I would urge anybody wanting to test themselves in a competitive environment to sign up now.”

The Salon Display will be a showcase for handcrafted works using foodstuffs such as fat, chocolate and marzipan, as well as pastry and sugarcraft classes. The Live Theatre offers classes on topics such as superfoods and street food and will feature competitions such as The Association of Pastry Chefs Dessert of the Year, Essential Cuisine’s ‘Teamwork in the Kitchen’ challenge and the British Culinary Federation’s Sustainable Fish Main Course. The final component, La Parade des Chefs, lets teams of six compete to cater for visitors at a 100 cover pop-up restaurant.

The Hospitality Show takes place at the NEC Birmingham from January 19-21, 2015. Focus areas this year include hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafés, delis and the cost sector and the show will provide visitors a chance to see all the latest products and services in the catering industry.
