Russell Bateman has left Pétrus

Russell Bateman has confirmed that he has left his role as head chef at Gordon Ramsay's Pétrus.

The National Chef of the Year 2014, is yet to announce his future plans. He joined Pétrus in 2018 from Colette's at The Grove, where he was head chef for almost ten years, and he replaced Larry Jayasekara.

Russell started his career at Harrods in Knightsbridge and then went on to work at Chapter One and Chez Nico with Paul Dunstane. He then went on to work at St James Street, under the tutelage of Marcus Wareing. He spent two and half years working with Marcus where he helped to open Fleur, The Savoy Grill and Pétrus’ new venue at The Berkeley. Russell considers Marcus Wareing to be one of the most significant influencers when it comes to his cooking style.

He then travelled to France to work with Marc Veyrat in Annecy, learning pastry in a three-starred Michelin kitchen - La Maison de Marc Veyrat.

Upon his return to England, he worked with Eric Chavot at the Capital Hotel before moving on to Danesfield House Hotel in Marlow, working for Aiden Byrne. He has also worked at Daniel Clifford’s Midsummer House. Russell attained his first head chef role at The Feathers, where he worked for two and a half years, before finally taking the head chef job at Collette’s at The Grove.
