One new three star and five new two stars in Michelin Tokyo Guide 2015
Bernard Delmas, president of Nihon Michelin Tire, said that unlike previous years, which covered three areas – Tokyo, Yokohama and Shonan – this year focuses exclusively on the Tokyo area. He added: “This time washoku – traditional Japanese cuisine – has been included and this has made the selection much richer and more interesting. We therefore hope that this guide book will enjoy even greater popularity with our readers.”
In total, a remarkable 200 new Bib Gourmand restaurants are in the washoku category of traditional Japanese cuisine. These join 13 other new Bib Gourmands to make 325 restaurants in total.
The newest three star restaurant, Makimura, serves Japanese cuisine and has been promoted from two stars. This means that in total Tokyo now has 12 three star restaurants, of which Restaurant Joël Robuchon and Quintessence are the only ones which are not Japanese.
Tokyo’s new two star restaurants are more varied; they are sushi restaurant Harutaka, Japanese
New one stars include the Japanese Adachi Naoto, French restaurants Chic Peut-Être and Crown, and the innovative Tapas Molecular Bar. In all, the 19 newcomers give Tokyo 161 one star restaurants in total.
Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides said that overall, "we can say that Tokyo is one of the most attractive cities in the world for gastronomy."
Tokyo now has 226 restaurants with one Michelin star or more in the Tokyo guide – far more than any other city in the world.
