One Club Row: Shoreditch's New Dining Destination
One Club Row, a new restaurant by chef Patrick Powell, James Dye, and Benjy Leibowitz, is set to open in Shoreditch in late March.
Situated above their pub, The Knave of Clubs, One Club Row will have its own private entrance from the rear street, offering a distinct dining experience.
While The Knave of Clubs celebrates British pub culture, One Club Row pays homage to New York's vibrant hospitality scene. Drawing on Benjy Leibowitz's decade-long experience in New York restaurants, the venue aims to bring the city's glamour and energy to East London.
Food and Drink
Culinary Director Patrick Powell, formerly of Allegra and Chiltern Firehouse, has crafted a menu with Head Chef Attila Gellen. Inspired by Parisian bistros and New York taverns, the menu features timeless classics made with the best seasonal UK produce.
A typical evening at One Club Row might begin with oysters and a classic martini, accompanied by snacks like pickled jalapeno gougères or lobster and country ham croquettes. Starters include roasted scallops with garlic butter, tuna crudo with tomato and tonnato sauce, and classics like steak tartare and French onion soup.
Main courses highlight dishes such as the signature One Club Row burger au poivre, roasted cod with buckwheat polenta and girolles, and pappardelle with kale, chanterelles, and lemon. Sharing dishes include whole lobster tagliatelle and bone-in ribeye with chipotle hollandaise. Desserts feature New York-style cheesecake, twice-baked chocolate cake with crème fraiche, and Dutch baby pancakes.
The bar will offer classic cocktails, Champagne, a selection of vermouths, and amaros. The wine list focuses on old-world selections, with special occasion bottles available at friendly mark-ups.
One Club Row will also feature live music, with a house pianist every weekend and monthly late shows with guest performers from the UK jazz scene.
Design and Ambiance
The Grade II-listed building's first floor will be used as a dining room for the first time in its 145-year history. The space has been restored to retain its original 19th-century features, including panelling, a fireplace, and cornicing, complemented by bold prints from London artist Joy Yamusangie. The dining room will seat 45 guests, with an additional 10 seats at the bar reserved for walk-ins.
The top floor, previously an apartment, has been transformed into private event spaces. The Dressing Room will accommodate 12 guests, The Living Room 24 guests, and the entire apartment will be available for events up to 60 guests. These spaces showcase original Victorian features, including fireplaces, floorboards, and large windows overlooking Shoreditch.
Benjy Leibowitz expressed his excitement, saying, “After a decade in New York, I’m so looking forward to working alongside our team on the floor and at the door, with a focus on guest experience and hospitality at the core of everything we do.”
One Club Row is the second venture from James and Benjy’s group, High Note Hospitality. The team includes seasoned professionals GM Niall Harte, most recently GM of Estela in New York and Lyle’s in London; Bar Manager Claudio Capponi, formerly of Balthazar and Chiltern Firehouse; and Restaurant Manager Molly Dixon, formerly of Midland Grand Dining Room and Mana in Manchester.
