Industry veteran chef Nigel Haworth, together with his wife and interior designer Kathrin, is planning to launch an F&B consultancy business.

Though he still provides consultancy services to Northcote and is an ambassador in the business, the chef ceased being a managing director there two years ago, and has since been working on other projects - including The Reg Johnson Young Chef competition, and mulling the idea of putting his experience in the industry to good use.

Speaking to The Staff Canteen, the chef explained that they will take a holistic approach to the improvement of business' F&B offering, "from the use of ingredients to the use of power and energy."

He said decision felt like "a natural thing to do" given his time spent working in the industry.

"I'm an old git," he joked, "so I've got a lot of experience and I've still got sums of energy. I'm still in love with food, I love restaurants and hotels and always have, I've still got loads of things that I want to do."

Northcote, he said, is "still a very special place and a very special part of me but it isn't the future for me anymore."

The chef added that he's excited to be working with Kathrin, whose experience in interior design, sustainable construction, renovation and restoration, combined with his knowledge and experience in the hospitality industry will hopefully provide a "a really professional approach to the F&B side of things."

"Kath knows what I'm thinking when I'm looking at a restaurant," he said.

"I think we've got a nice opportunity to do things - because of the years of experience - that can actually be quite special. There's still a need for good food, good service and a good environmental thing so the whole thing comes together - and when you get that all working it's incredibly exciting."
